  FIRE PIT SAFETY TIPS

A NIGHT OF roasting marshmallows can go up in flames if you’re not
careful. Follow these safety tips to enjoy your fire pit for many nights to come.
»» Check with your local fire department before burning.
»» Avoid fires on dry, windy days.
»» Keep the fire attended by an adult at all times.
»» Do not use flammable fluids to start your fire.
»» Build your fire at least 25 feet away from any buildings or structures (including

   decks, sheds, etc.)
»» Don’t build your fire underneath low-

   hanging branches.
»» Surround your fire pit with stones or bricks.
»» If your fire pit has a lid, make sure not to

   overload the bin with wood.
»» Put your fire out with water and stir the

embers with a shovel until they are wet and
   cold to the touch.
