“ To Our Community:
At Navicent Health, our As we present our 2017 Report to Our Community, we realize what a remarkable year
primary focus has always 2017 was for our health system, our community and our region, and we celebrate all that
we will continue to accomplish in 2018.
been on people. Our
mission is to create healthy This has been a time period characterized by rapid growth and regional expansion at
communities by ensuring Navicent Health. Often, our growth was very obvious to our community. We celebrated
the health and wellness of the grand opening of the Lofts at Navicent with Sierra Development and Macon-
Bibb County, a partnership which is already reaping economic rewards. We also began
the individuals we serve. construction on Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital, Navicent Health. This project
has created numerous jobs for those in our area as we have honored our commitment
” to work with local, diverse contractors and laborers whenever possible. Our teams have
worked tirelessly to erect this new hospital, knowing that their efforts will touch the lives

While expansion through new facilities is a wonderful benefit for our health system
and the communities we serve, construction is not the only means of expanding patient
care services. In 2017, we were very pleased to purchase Oconee Regional Medical Center
in Milledgeville—now known as Navicent Health Baldwin—in an effort to ensure the
continuation of local healthcare options for Baldwin County and the surrounding area for
many years to come. Following that purchase, we also announced strategic combinations
with both Houston Healthcare in Houston County and Atrium Healthcare (formerly
Carolinas HealthCare System) in North Carolina.
I am frequently asked why Navicent Health is so committed to growth and expansion,
particularly as it relates to partnerships with other hospitals and health systems. Please
allow me to elaborate on our smart growth strategy.
At Navicent Health, our primary focus has always been on people. Our mission is
to create healthy communities by ensuring the health and wellness of the individuals
we serve. We are working with hospitals and health systems in numerous communities
throughout our region to ensure high quality healthcare services remain local and
patients are treated in the most appropriate setting—close to home. Likewise, our
proposed strategic combination with the larger Atrium Health will allow us to provide
more resources for patients here in central and south Georgia, particularly in rural and
underserved areas, as we work together to implement new technologies and the most
efficient care. In all that we do at Navicent Health, we remain focused on serving you!
In the coming months, you will likely observe similar combinations and partnerships,
not only at Navicent Health but from healthcare providers throughout the country.
The healthcare industry has experienced rapid change over the past few years, making
collaboration more desirable than competition. We believe that working collaboratively
with other providers will ultimately benefit you and your loved ones. You are the reason
we exist, and we are grateful for your continued support. Together, we will continue to
move toward a bright future!
With kindest regards,
Dr. Ninfa M. Saunders, FACHE
