COMMUNITY HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS UNITE TO COMBAT DEADLY OPIOIDS
In June, Navicent Health led area healthcare providers, local and state law enforcement, the Department
of Public Health, and Georgia Poison Control to alert residents to the presence of a dangerous and lethal
pill being sold on the street as Percocet. The pill, later identified by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation as
containing carfentanil, led to a cluster of opioid overdoses and fatalities within 48 hours. Following a news
conference hosted by Navicent Health, patients ceased to present with symptoms linked to the pill, and local
and state law enforcement were able to recover and identify the drug. Navicent Health has since participated
in the national discussion about opioids in hopes of finding a solution for pain management while minimizing
risk of addiction.
NAVICENT HEALTH EXPERTS LEAD STATE EFFORTS TO ‘STOP THE BLEED’
Trauma Services, Navicent Health has led statewide efforts to “Stop the Bleed” as physicians and staff have
trained representatives of 23 school districts as well as Georgia legislators in this lifesaving technique. Stop the
Bleed is a national initiative created to provide bystanders of emergency situations with the expertise necessary to
stop life-threatening bleeding until first responders arrive. Navicent Health’s goal is to provide lifesaving education
and equip school classrooms, law enforcement vehicles and public venues with bleeding control kits, along with
education and training to fully equip individuals with the necessary skills to save a life.

achieve this certification,” Gov. Deal said during the visit. “Your work will go a long way toward improving quality of life
for our entire state.”
PARTNERSHIP WITH GEORGIA PROSTATE CANCER COALITION PROTECTS FIRST RESPONDERS

firefighters and law enforcement officers. The free screenings are offered throughout the state, including Navicent Health
facilities in Bibb, Monroe and Peach counties.

Vizient MidSouth Sepsis collaborative members, including Navicent Health, had the opportunity to collaborate on regional
and national levels to effectively prevent, treat and manage sepsis and septic shock. For 2016, the collaborative reported more

NAVICENT HEALTH PROVIDES CRITICAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE COORDINATION FOR REGION
As Hurricane Matthew intensified on the Atlantic coast, and in response to Gov. Deal’s declaration of a State of Emergency for
30 Georgia counties, many vulnerable healthcare populations were evacuated from coastal Georgia for their safety and to maintain
continuity of care. As the regional coordinating hospital for Region F, Navicent Health also served as coordinator for Region J
during this event and the staff worked tirelessly to support this critical evacuation effort. Gov. Deal and the Georgia Senate later
honored Georgia hospitals, including members of Navicent Health, for their timely response to Hurricane Matthew.
